We knew that, with PlayerUnknown Battleground’s success since its launch on Steam, that new battle royale titles will start to pop up like crazy. We’ve seen a lot of copies based on PUBG show up frequently like Fortnite Battle Royale and Last Man Standing getting their fair share of the spotlight, now Valve seem to be bringing a similar title tied to Counter-Strike codenamed CS: GO Survival Mode.
For quite some time now, there are unused files hidden inside CS: GO folders with the name CS: GO Survival which indicate that something big is coming. It contains item names, mechanics and even a map name which can be found through data mining and throughout investigation.
Youtube channel Valve News Network has uploaded a video with a collection of those file names containing compound bows, light and heavy armor, supply crates, parachutes, breach charges, adrenaline shots, new grenades and an island map which isn’t announced for CS: GO. All those items are linked to the name CS: GO Survival.
If this is really happening we’re about to see a new type of Battle Royale game, featuring complex mechanics like night vision goggles, sonar, beacons, drones etc. Given the intense battles and (almost) flawless aim system that CS: GO implements, Valve could be on to a new trendsetter.
Right now, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground has knocked off Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to the third place in Steam statistics as most played game on the platform. Second is Dota 2 with a steady lead ahead of all other similar MOBA titles.
Valve has a strict policy of announcing new games only when some kind of gameplay is ready for testing, so it might take a while for us to see if such a title is in development. However, there’s a chance that this is all just a misguidance and the developer team has just added excess files to the game’s folder. We’ll just have to wait and see if something more is revealed in the next year.
Do you think Valve is working on a CS: GO Survival title? Would you prefer to play this instead of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds?
