The first playable character was revealed by Overkill for their upcoming game The Walking Dead, in a new trailer today. In the stream hosted by the creator Robert Kirkman, the trailer was released alongside a small introduction of all personnel involved in developing the game.
Unveiled in the summer of 2014, Overkill’s The Walking Dead is a product of the developers of the co-op bank heist series, Payday and is being said to be a four-player, co-op FPS in which all playable characters have their own set of special abilities, skills, and roles in the squad.
We’ve never done anything as big as what we’re doing with Overkill, so I think that’s really exciting.
When we started doing Walking Dead video games, I thought that first-person-shooter stuff was such a crowded marketplace, and there’s so much cool zombie stuff in it, I was initially very reluctant to go in that area with Walking Dead.
I wanted to make sure that when we did it, it was really going to blow doors off, it was really going to break new ground, and it going to be something that could stand head-and-shoulders above the things around it.
The character revealed is Aiden, a former architect trying to survive in what is now a ruin of Washington D.C. His weapon of choice is a baseball bat with nails hammered into it to be used against the Walkers.
Although there is no official date for Overkills’ The Walking Dead as yet, the developers have given the time frame of fall 2018. The game has already been delayed once back in 2016.
This promising title puts Overkill in the center going farther than they have ever before. How successful will this development be is a question of the time. For now, the trailer seems to be enticing all the fans.
The game will be available to be played on Steam, Xbox One, and PS4.
