Red Hook Announces New Darkest Dungeon DLC: The Color Of Madness
Only a few months after releasing the first Darkest Dungeon DLC, The Crimson Court, Red Hook Studios has already announced a new Darkest Dungeon DLC, known as The Color Of Madness. Bringing in a new area, new enemies, and a new segment of the game’s story, the DLC will come out early next year.
The background of the DLC is that a strange comet has struck the Hamlet where the game takes place, destroying the old millhouse on the outskirts and turning the miller and his farmhands into the thralls of whatever power is inside of it. Now your characters must go to the mill themselves, and destroy whatever else is now threatening the Hamlet and the world.
It’s a similar setup to the Crimson Court DLC, where players gained access to the Courtyard area, a swampy mire filled with vampiric insects that caused the Hamlet to be haunted by mosquitos and a fanatical priest who burned people at the stake.
However, considering how different the Crimson Court’s vampiric mosquitos were from the zombies, pig-men, and fish-men from the base game, it’s likely that the new Darkest Dungeon DLC will be just as new and inventive, though hopefully a mechanic like the Crimson Curse (which required you to give the infected characters blood to prevent them from earning various debuffs and eventually dying) won’t be coming along with them.
However, considering how nightmarish the various enemies in Darkest Dungeon are regardless of where they come from, we can expect that the shambling horrors coming from the mill in The Color Of Madness will likely be just as bad, especially if it’s some kind of cosmic horror (which wouldn’t be surprising, considering the game’s Lovecraftian leanings.)
The new Darkest Dungeon DLC will be coming out in the Spring of 2018, so there’s at least not too long to wait before we get more information. Darkest Dungeon is currently available on the PC, Playstation 4, and Playstation Vita, and will soon be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
