Microsoft Surface Phone To Be Powered By The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845?

The Microsoft Surface Phone has been rumored for some time now and while I would like to have the device come out already there is little that we know about it as of right now. Microsoft put out a job opening for a Manufacturing Engineer that will help the company integrate the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 into their upcoming device but the posting does not mention which device the new hire will be working on.

It is highly unlikely that the Microsoft Surface series of products will be powered by a mobile chip unless it is the Microsoft Surface Phone that is being talked about here. While there are not many people that are interested in buying smartphones that are powered by Windows, the Microsoft Surface Phone is a device that I have been waiting for a long time.

The Windows Mobile platform was lacking in many areas but I for one have owned three Windows phones and I liked them all. It is a pity that Microsoft killed the platform at the end. The new hire will be responsible to check out and test the use of wireless technologies based on the Wi-Fi 802.11ax standard.

Do take this with a grain of salt as we do not know whether this is indeed the Microsoft Surface Phone or not. This could easily be some other product that is being worked on and has not been released right now. It could also be some kind of refresh to an older product. We have talked about the Snapdragon 835 coming for notebooks and that it will improve battery life significantly.

Keeping that in mind it is possible that the new chip can also be introduced for the laptop market but that has not been announced yet.

Let us know what you think about the Microsoft Surface Phone and whether or not you want to get one.
