Reigning Street Fighter V Champion NuckleDu Will Not Return to Capcom Cup 2017

By   /   Nov 28, 2017

Du “NuckleDu” Dang made a surprising announcement earlier today that he will “likely” not return to defend his championship title at Capcom Cup 2017.

The professional Street Fighter V player stated that he has already spoken with Capcom and Team Liquid, with both supporting his decision to drop out just a week before the prestigious event. This means that we will probably see the competitive ladder open up to invite an additional contender to fill the vacant spot.

At the time of writing, it has not been revealed to the public as to why NuckleDu will not be returning for Capcom Cup 2017. He automatically qualified when he won the cup last year, and participated in various Capcom Pro Tour events throughout the year to amass enough points for a third place finish on the global ladder.

Whether it is personal or professional, we wish him the best of luck in his endeavors.

Capcom Cup 2017 is scheduled to take place from December 8-10 in Anaheim, California. It is the culmination of an entire year of competitive proceedings, with only the best Street Fighter V players from around the world gathering under one roof to take the crown.

The same weekend will also see Sony host PlayStation Experience (PSX 2017) at the same venue. Capcom is expected to officially announce a new season and character pass for Street Fighter V. In addition, the upcoming Street Fighter V Arcade Edition will be available on the show-floor for attendees to try out for the first time.
