Over 17 Million Steam Concurrent Users Set New Record, Thanks to PUBG

Steam, the highly popular and beloved digital distribution platform from Valve, witnessed more than 17 million concurrent users on the weekend. This is an all-time high for Steam, which previously recorded 15 million concurrent users in September and 16 million in October. The large and frequent increments mean that breaking through the 18 million barrier next month is a likely possibility.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) did the most in achieving the latest milestone. It just passed 22 million copies sold and has been the most-played game on Steam for several months now. It contributed nearly 3 million players, followed by Dota 2 with over 800,000 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with over 500,000. Rainbow Six Siege and Team Fortress 2 rounded up the top five games with just under 100,000 players each.

In all honesty, none of the games really contributed much outside of PUBG. The craze for the battle royale game has been paving way to the full release before the end of the year. It goes without saying that when PUBG escapes early access, there will be new milestones to read about.

Steam is expected to host its annual winter sale next month, which will also undoubtedly help in boosting the number of active players with new deals and bargains. According to a previous rumor, the seasonal event will start on December 24 and continue through January 4.
