You may remember Rampage as a co-op video game starring huge monsters destroying cities, back in the day when arcade machines were a hit. The game received a considerable amount of sequels so seeing it again is a big deal for arcade gamers. Rampage is now getting a movie adaptation with Dwayne Johnson as the main character and, dare we say, it looks as action based and “Hollywoody” as we’d expect.
The movie will feature the same three giant monsters that were the main characters in the first Rampage, a gorilla, a wolf and an alligator, all of which come at the size of a building. The original game’s purpose was simple -You and two friends of yours are maneuvering the three giant animals so as to destroy big cities in America. Your objective? To see all cities reduced to rubble while trying to survive against onslaughts of military forces.
Its movie adaptation, on the other hand, seems to be having a bit more background story than the game, as the main character is now the head of an anti-poaching unit whose friend, an albino gorilla is starting to get unreasonably bigger due to a chemical infection. From there on the pure action and CGI scenes begin.
Dwayne Johnson has given his own synopsis of Rampage, in the most simple way we could get:
“I head up an anti-poaching unit out of Rwanda, My best friend is a rare albino gorilla named George. Very bad people infect George, an alligator and a wolf with a serum. All three animals grow at an unprecedented rate. Their size, speed, agility and violent aggression is off the charts. They go on a deadly rampage and want to destroy the world.”
Warner Bros.’ Rampage movie was first announced in June 2015 and will now be released on April 20, 2018.
