Nintendo is preparing Splatoon 2 for the upcoming holiday season with a series of massive free updates that will introduce a plethora of new content.
It begins on November 23 when the developer will release new weapons, gear, and hairstyles. In addition, a new Salmon Run mode will add the Salmonid Smokeyard stage to the rotation.
“In Salmonid Smokeyard, a wide gap on the beach divides two upper platforms, with fan lifts being the quickest way to traverse the two platforms,” Nintendo said. “Teamwork is required to use the fan lifts effectively.”
The very next day will see Nintendo release a new Battle Stage called MakoMart. Three more — Shellendorf Institute, plus the return of Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall from the original installment — will arrive soon.
The level cap is also being raised from 50 to 99, at which point players will have the option to reset their maxed out levels for a star. Concerns regarding amiibo functionality will also be addressed, allowing players to take and share photos from preset locations with new filter settings.
Nintendo has promised to release more than a hundred new items, ranging from outfits to shoes and headgear. Some of these items will be returning to Splatoon 2 from the first installment.
Following all of that will be a mid-December update that adds a new game mode called Clam Blitz. Players will be tasked with collecting golden clams from around the map and escorting them to a basket near the enemy base. The first team to score 100 points will achieve victory.
Splatoon 2 is now available exclusively on the Switch.
