While still a week away from release, Star Wars: Battlefront II has already started to achieve major milestones and accolades. These, however, are drenched in negativity and not what any publisher would want on its plate.
In the wake of the pay-to-win controversy that continues to surround the highly anticipated sequel, Electronic Arts (EA) has been kept fairly busy in clarifying its stance over the matter and calming the masses. The futile efforts have only ended up throwing more fuel on the raging fires.
Star Wars: Battlefront II is designed to promote extensive grinding in order to unlock post-release content for free, an aspect that on the same hand also forces microtransactions on the players who have already paid the full retail price.
Throughout the weekend, the publisher commented in various threads on Reddit in defence of the pay-to-win business model. The clarification ended up earning EA the most down-voted comment in the history of the platform.
The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.
Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.
The comment (above) currently has 165,000 down-votes that continue to rise every hour. If anything, Star Wars: Battlefront II is setting a bar that may take other companies or individuals a lot of work to surpass.
Star Wars: Battlefront II is scheduled to release on November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
