Ubisoft: Console Refreshes Help Increase Software Sales And Extend Console Generation
Both Sony Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft have introduced mid-gen refreshes of their consoles with PS4 Pro and Xbox One X and according to Ubisoft, this is a good thing as this helps in extending the life of the console generation and also helps increasing software sales.
Speaking during the company’s financial call, Ubisoft noted that mid-generation refreshed like PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are actually a good thing as they will help the console generation to last about two years more compared to its original estimated life.
According to Ubisoft, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X have already extended the life of the current generation but, noted that the company has no inside knowledge about the console market and statistics that makes them believe this but it expects it to last two years more.
The company also noted that these mid-gen refreshes also help with increasing software sales as the company can develop a title and sell it on four consoles at the same time with minimal investment. Assassin’s Creed Origins is the example of this which launched for PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X.
Ubisoft’s next highly-anticipated title is Far Cry 5 which is due to launch in February 2018. While the game is a few months away from launch but according to devs, the fishing mini-game has become a fan-favorite already.
Because we discovered it when we went there, we put a lot of love on the fishing. For instance, there is a fly fishing minigame that can be played. This is already a fan-favourite when we presented the game in different places, people started to make a contest out of who would get the biggest fish.
