It is rare to see products go on sale right after their release, especially if it is a highly anticipated sequel in the form of Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
While addressing investors in a recent earnings call for the second quarter, chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen was asked if Electronic Arts (EA) has any plans to capitalize on the upcoming busy shopping seasons.
Since Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is coming out just before Black Friday, the company will not be offering any official discounts and any lowering of the price tag will have to be done by the retailers. However, EA is fairly interested in discounting the game a few weeks prior to the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi to take advantage of excited and hyped fans.
“We will most likely discount the game like we did last time around the movie launch, and maybe you’ll even see some selected discounts around the holidays, either Thanksgiving or Christmas,” Jorgensen stated. “That’s the way the games business always has worked.”
In that light, those interested in getting Star Wars: Battlefront 2 this year may want to wait at least a month for the potential price cut. The ones who have already pre-ordered may be disappointed in this regard, especially if the discount comes around to $20 like with the first installment in the series.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is scheduled to release worldwide on November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. DICE recently assured that it has made a number of changes to the loot box system, following a pay-to-win controversy.
