The Last of Us 2 remains shrouded in mystery but thankfully, Sony has begun flexing its muscles to pave the way for more information and details.
The company released a new cinematic trailer for the highly anticipated sequel at Paris Games Week (PGW 2017) last night. Those who have already watched it would agree that it is certainly not for the faint of heart. The footage is painfully graphic and full of disturbing imagery, touching upon torture and disembowelment.
The trailer also features a new cast of characters, which has sent fans further down the rabbit hole. Naughty Dog is renowned for its story-telling capabilities and it is only natural to assume that these new characters, or at least some of them, hold importance in the plot.
“At its core, The Last of Us 2 is still very much about Ellie and Joel, but for this reveal, we wanted to showcase several new characters that are integral to their next journey,” Naughty Dog teased in a followup.
The internet is currently busy trying to identify the new cast. To help them in their journey, Naughty Dog took to Twitter earlier today in order to reveal the actors behind the said characters.
Victoria Grace plays Yara, the second one to be captured and who later gets her left arm smashed with a hammer. Ian Alexander plays Lev, the bow-wielder who comes to the rescue in the end. Emily Swallow makes a “guest appearance” as Emily, the deranged woman who apparently spends most of her time torturing and hanging everyone she finds.
Finally, Laura Bailey plays the central character who narrowly escaped death but the developer is not ready to reveal her identity yet. The quickest assumption was that she is actually Ellie as a grownup. The theory has since then been shut down by senior sound designer Robert Krekel.
The next popular choice is that it is actually Anna, the mother of Ellie who we all presumed in the first installment to have died after giving birth. Considering how much she means to Ellie, we can only imagine the emotional roller coaster should both mother and daughter be trying to survive in the sequel.
It is also interesting to note that the name of the woman censored by Naughty Dog is exactly four letters. Perhaps we are going to be learning more about Anna in the coming months after all.
