Nintendo Gamescom 2017, Non-Traditional Nintendo IPs

With the launch of Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has been supporting its hybrid console with titles such as Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Splatoon 2, and the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey. However, in a sense, these are traditional family-friendly Nintendo titles and the company is looking to release non-traditional Nintendo IPs for its console.

Speaking with Famitsu, Yoshiaki Koizumi, the mind behind Super Mario Odyssey, confirmed that Nintendo fans can look forward to non-traditional Nintendo IPs starting next year. If we are to guess then we might be looking at some mature first-party titles from Nintendo as Nintendo games have a reputation for being family-friendly.

However, the hybrid console is already getting mature titles such as Doom and L.A Noire next month and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus next year. But, we can only speculate until Nintendo reveals what it has planned.

However, Nintendo will not be the only one to release new titles for its hybrid console as, Sony Interactive Entertainment has formed a new multiplatform publication that will launch titles for Nintendo Switch. The Sony division will focus on games for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. The focus will be on supporting unique and innovative projects.

The goal is to penetrate the ever-expanding video games market with indie titles. The firm plans to use SME resources to help indie games reach as broad audience.

What do you think what kind of non-traditional IPs will be released by Nintendo? Let us know in the comments.
