League of Legends received Patch 7.21 yesterday as the last one before the pre-season officially starts early next month. In that light, the official patch notes contain mostly minor changes except for a fairly significant one for Galio.
The ongoing League of Legends World Championship (Worlds 2017) has seen the recently reworked champion prove his mettle on the professional stage. Riot Games is aiming to balance those power levels by reducing the base damage and defensive capabilities on all of his abilities. The only problem is that the developer has decided to compensate the changes by increasing the Ability Power (AP) ratio on the kit as well.
Passive – Colossal Smash
Ratio: 0.4 ability power ⇒ 0.7 ability power
Q – Winds of War
Base Damage: 60/95/130/165/200 ⇒ 50/80/110/140/170
Ratio: 0.75 ability power ⇒ 0.9 ability power
% Maximum Health Damage Over Time: 2% target’s maximum health per half-second ⇒ 3% target’s maximum health per 100 ability power, per half-second
W – Shield of Durand
Magical Damage Reduction: 20/25/30/35/40% (+8% per 100 bonus magic resist) ⇒ 20/25/30/35/40% (+8% per 100 bonus magic resist) (+5% per 100 ability power)
Physical Damage Reduction: Same as magical damage reduction ⇒ half of magical damage reduction
E – Justice Punch
Base Damage: 100/140/180/220/260 ⇒ 100/130/160/190/220
Ratio: 0.7 ability power ⇒ 0.9 ability power
The Sentinel’s Sorrow is now a terrifying burst mage that players are already building as a mid-lane assassin, featuring an inventory stocked to the brim with AP items. There are already a few montages out to showcase how Winds of War (Q) is sometimes just enough for Galio to make enemy champions disappear.
It is safe to assume that the changes were less than ideal and Riot Games will be looking to revert some of them in the pre-season. If the community is vocal enough, we might even see the developer come out with a mid-patch hot-fix in the coming week. Until then, AP Galio is something that players will be looking to take advantage of in the ranked queues for some last-minute grinding.
