The Evolution Championship Series (EVO 2018) has officially been confirmed to make a return next year as another annual iteration in the largest fighting games tournament in the world.
Rather than taking place in July as the tradition has dictated in the past years, participants will have to mark their calendars for early August. The venue, though, will remain the same and all of the action will happen once again under the storied roof of the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The official lineup has yet to be revealed but it is safe to say that Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will be the star attraction. You can also expect Tekken 7, Injustice 2, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, Super Smash Bros., The King of Fighters XIV, and possibly Dragon Ball FighterZ next year.
More details should surface in the coming months but until then, here is the official trailer to get things started. It features numerous moments from past events as well as footage from different fighting games that will likely be included EVO 2018.
Taniguchi “Tokido” Hajime will be looking to defend his title next year, with Victor “Punk” Woodley getting another chance at glory where he affirms his position as the alpha.
It will be interesting to see the registration numbers for EVO 2018. Street Fighter V received the most participants this year but the figure was nearly half from last year. Tekken 7, on the other hand, managed to double its amount of participants. It is likely that the game will receive even better registrations next year. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 more or less retained the same number of players this year in comparison to the last. However, the release of Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite will possibly see the figure increase next year.
