Destiny 2 Features Unlimited Frame Rate on PC

Bungie has repeatedly mentioned in the past that the PC version of Destiny 2 should not be taken as just a mere console port. Following its official launch earlier today, it has come to light that the development team made some additional improvements for the enthusiastic community.

Speaking with Digital Foundry, senior technical artist Nate Hawbaker revealed that the highly anticipated sequel features an unlimited frame rate. The only limitation that players should be wary of is from their own hardware.

During the beta testing, it was reported that Destiny 2 was able to pump a maximum of 200 frames per second on an Intel Core i7-7700K processor. Bungie has removed that cap in the final version of the game so that those with the necessary specifications can crunch serious frame-numbers on higher resolutions.

“There were a couple of bugs that did result in going above 200, related to floating-point precision and various rounding errors, but we’ve resolved those now,” Hawbaker explained.

That being said, players are more likely to find their processors bottleneck as soon as they go past the 200 marker. Nonetheless, everyone has the freedom to see for themselves how many frames their systems are able to produce before choking.

It is important to remember that the console versions of Destiny 2 are locked at just 30 frames per second. This fact makes it even more impressive that those on PC can potentially run the game on more than 200 frames per second.

Destiny 2 officially launched for PC earlier today, more than a month after it arrived for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The wait was worth it. Not only does the sequel feature an unlimited frame rate, it also has support for ultra-wide monitors and various options for improved visual fidelity.
