The League of Legends World Championship (Worlds 2017) concluded its quarterfinals over the weekend with some of the most tense and action-packed matches we have seen throughout the prestigious tournament so far.
The western teams put up an amazing fight to cement their chances at glory but it fell a bit short in the end. No one expected such resilience from the likes of Misfits and Cloud9. Both had fans sitting at the edge of their seats in hopes to see what looked like the biggest upsets in the history of the game.
It was a splendid display of skill from the teams but it is eventually South Korea and China that have filled the slots for the upcoming semifinals. As fate would have it, both regions have been pitted against each other to decide the grand finals.
SK Telecom T1 will begin by going up against Royal Never Give Up on October 28. Following that will be Samsung Galaxy against Team WE the very next day.
SK Telecom T1, a team that has three world championships under its belt, is expected to advance into the grand finals from where it will defend its title for the third year in a row. Samsung Galaxy, having defeated Longzhu Gaming in the quarterfinals with ease, is also a favorite to survive.
However, there is always the possibility that Royal Never Give Up takes advantage of the fact that SK Telecom T1 has been showing a few cracks in how it commands its early game. Team WE struggled a bit in the quarterfinals, and it would be surprising if it manages to defeat the might of Samsung Galaxy.
As far as the community is concerned, everyone is strapped in to see SK Telecom T1 take on Samsung Galaxy in the grand finals. We do not have to wait that long to see which team–and region–gets to wear the crown at the end of Worlds 2017.
