Pimax 8K VR headset is in development and will become a real product if it reaches its Kickstarter goal and judging from what we have seen, it will before the deadline of November 3rd. The goal for the Pimax 8K VR headset was to reach $200,000 and 2,968 people have come together to pledge $1,860,705 and there are still 15 days to go before the campaign comes to an end.
The Pimax 8K VR headset will allow users to explore the VR world with peripheral vision without any screen door effect and motion sickness. The headset supports most of the content that is available on current VR headsets including PiHome, Steam VR, and Oculus(via a third party tool).
The team behind this project has extensive expertise in display as well as the VR industry and this is not their first project either. According to the Kickstarter page:
We care about visual quality a lot. Our co-founders have over 20 years R&D experience in display era, including many years in VR. Some of the core team members come from display industry. All the display vendors are based in Asia, especially East Asia. Our team members maintain a close relationship with the display suppliers. We have the advantage to customize VR display.
4K VR seems great but I wonder what kind of hardware you will need in order to run game in VR at such a high resolution. Event he GTX 1080 Ti has a hard time running games at 4K on a normal screen. I am sure that VR games will be demanding the 8K is much higher than 4K. I guess we will find out when the Pimax 8K VR headset comes out. You can check it out in the video below:
