ELEX has launched for PC and consoles with mixed reception from players and critics alike. However, PC users are facing some ELEX errors like crashing, freezing, game not saving and more. All of these issues will be discussed here we will also provide you with a possible fix.
ELEX is a science fantasy RPG developed by Piranha Bytes for PC and current-gen consoles and published by THQ Nordic. The PC version of the game has been facing some issues since launch and following are the possible workarounds for these errors, crashes and other issues.
ELEX Errors, Crashes And Fixes
ELEX – Game Freezing
This is one of the ELEX errors that players have been experiencing on PC and specifically in one instance when players have to arrive in the city with Duras and the game freezes after the dialogue. However, the solution to this issue is simple.
Go to the city with Duras and after the dialogue just press “L”. After the dialogue, the game is supposed to open up a window telling you to open your quest log but, for some reason, the window doesn’t open and the game freezes. Just press “L” after the dialogue and you will be good to go.
ELEX – Game Not Saving/Save Game Bug
This issue is a recurring one as the previous titles from developer Piranha Bytes featured this bug such as Risen, Risen 2, and Risen 3 and now this issue has again popped up for ELEX.
To fix this savegame issue, browse the game’s folder Steam\SteamApps\common\ELEX\data\ini. Here open up the file mount_packed.xml and locate “PhysicalPath=”$(savedgames)/ELEX/SaveGames” and change it to “PhysicalPath=”$(localappdata)/ELEX/SaveGames”.
Once this is done, go to C\Users\username\AppData\Local\Elex and create a new directory SaveGames and the issue will resolve.
ELEX – Graphical Artifact On Nvidia GPU
This is another of the ELEX errors that Nvidia GPU users have been experiencing while playing the game as the game starts showing strange graphical artifacts. However, the fix for this issue is very simple, just update your Nvidia GPU drivers to the latest version and the issue should resolve.
ELEX – Blurry Visuals
ELEX is not one of the best looking games on this generation and things are worsened with the blurry visuals of the game. However, there are a couple of solutions to this problem and one is specific to Nvidia GPUs and more so for high-end Nvidia GPUs.
The first method to get rid of the blurriness in the game is go to the Nvidia Control Panel and select “Manage 3D Settings” and in the “Global Settings” select the “DSR Factors” now you may want to select all the options here. Now, select “DSR Smoothness” and you might need to experiment a bit over here but, beware that the lesser the value the less blurry the image will be. Apply the changes and start the game.
As the game starts, you are now able to select resolution above your native resolution. We would suggest you select only one above your native resolution and play the game. You will notice that the blurriness will be gone or reduced depending on the how much “DSR Smoothness” you are using.
As for the second method, it is not recommended but, if you want to use it then you will have to do it at your own risk. The other method to get rid of the blurry visuals is through a third-party software, Reshade. You can check the full workaround in the video below.
ELEX – Control To Keyboard Switching/Controller Error
This is another of the ELEX errors that players have been experiencing which playing the game with a controller, the game suddenly changes the control scheme to the keyboard and then keyboard to controller.
However, this issue might be causing because of users Shift + Tabbing out to use Steam overlay to message other players. For now, the only way to avoid this issue is to avoid using in-game overlay in ELEX and this will resolve your issue.
ELEX – Crashes
Sone AMD GPU users have been reporting that the game is constantly crashing while it is not known what is causing the issue but, follow these steps to get rid of this problem.
Update your AMD GPU drivers to the latest version and add the game to AMD game settings in the Control Panel. After adding the game to the AMD Game Settings, set all the settings for the game to default. Also, update your DirectX and this should potentially get rid of the game crashing.
ELEX – Missing “.dll” Files
This is common occuring issue for PC users and is nothing to be frightned about. If you are using Windows 7 and it is not updated, then simply update your OS and install the Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Update 3 which will automatically update the file or will put it in your system if it is missing.
