Exclusive: 2K Games May Have Deliberately Created Confusion Around WWE 2K18 Digital Deluxe on PC
Update: 2K Games indeed updated the page recently to make it clear that there is no early access on PC. Interestingly, they also switched the image to remove the PC logo under early access. You can compare the following image with the one we shared in the Original Story section.
Original Story: Just hours ago I wrote an article about WWE 2K18’s early access confusion and I tried to clear it up based on a post from 2K Games which states that there is no early access on PC if you pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition. However, after doing a little digging I found out that even though the blog mentions there is no early access, 2K Games may have deliberately created confusion to make players think WWE 2K18 Digital Deluxe Edition will offer them early access on PC.
After the disaster that was NBA 2K18 and its microtransactions, one hoped that 2K Games would be careful with its actions. I visited a thread on Steam where one of the users mentioned that 2K updated its pre-order page just an hour ago to mention that there is no early access on PC. While I don’t have anything to prove that the page was updated so recently, there is so much false marketing that needs to be addressed.
The official web page for WWE 2K18 does not make any distinction between the PC and console versions. Digital Deluxe Edition offers 4 days early access but nowhere does it say that PC isn’t included. Moreover, if you go through the process of preordering by selecting the edition you want (Deluxe Edition) as well as your platform (PC), the website still keeps hiding the fact that 4 days early access is not available on PC.
In fact, even after selecting your platform, the page keeps mentioning that Digital Deluxe Edition does come with 4 days early access. Here’s a screenshot I was able to capture:
If you hit the pre-order button, the page will redirect to Steam product page for WWE 2K18 where, at the time of this writing, there is no mention of early access. The page does not clarify if the Digital Deluxe Edition does or does not offer early access to PC users. So whoever redirects from the official site will purchase under the impression that Digital Deluxe does indeed offer early access.
Here’s what makes matters worse, the following image shows PC as one of the platforms that gets early access alongside PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Here is one of the Steam users who mentioned that 2K Games updated the pre-order page just an hour ago but I haven’t been able to confirm this yet. But one thing is for sure, 2K has deliberately created confusion over early access in order to not discourage PC users from preordering.
This is a developing story and we will have more updates for you soon.
