Sledgehammer Games has unveiled a new Call of Duty WW2 Gridiron mode for the game’s multiplayer, adding in a new mode to the game besides the old Call of Duty standbys and the new objective-based game mode War. The mode will revolve around carrying a ball to get points.
In contrast, you’ll also have to try and defend the ball from the other team, who will also be fighting to take it in order to score points. Game modes like this have previously been in other Call of Duty games, particularly Advanced Warfare’s Uplink mode and other one-flag Capture The Flag modes. This game type will be taking place in a war-torn version of London.
With the probable small area of the London map that will be part of the game mode, players can likely expect that the Call of Duty WW2 Gridiron mode will be a very fast-paced and intense match as long as the two teams can keep stealing the ball from one another to get points.
Call of Duty WW2 has the potential to be one of the best Call of Duty games in years, especially after two rather poorly-received games from Infinity Ward (Call of Duty Ghosts and last year’s fan-blasted Infinite Warfare) and the end of the Black Ops series with Treyarch. Sledgehammer is in a very good position to try and make another highly popular Call of Duty along the lines of Black Ops.
Considering how popular EA DICE’s latest Battlefield offering, Battlefield 1, has remained among their players in the year since it was released, a return to World War 2 instead of going farther and farther into the future might be juts the thing needed to revitalize the franchise.
You’ll be able to play the Call of Duty WW2 Gridiron mode when the game releases on November 3 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
