Capcom has started loosening up a little bit regarding the upcoming release of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. While attending a panel at New York Comic-Con last week, the developer shared a few additional details on the long-awaited arcade mode.
Instead of going with the traditional ladder of computer-controlled opponents for players to go through to unlock character endings, Capcom has decided to put in a few more incentives.
To begin with, the arcade mode will feature six different paths to choose from. Each will be linked to one of the main installments in the franchise. For example, the Street Fighter II path will only feature characters that appeared in that specific release. In addition, the user interface and color schemes will also be themed around the respective installments.
However, there will be more to do than simply attain character endings. The arcade mode in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will have its own monthly ranking system. Players will earn points (via EventHubs) from their arcade runs, and those with the most points at the end of the month will receive a special title to use in online matches. This will be applicable to all the six different paths.
Take note that Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will feature over a hundred different endings across the roster of characters. The best endings will be tied to the performance of players. In other words, players must show their skills in order to unlock everything.
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will be a free update for existing owners. It is scheduled to release on January 16 for PlayStation 4 and PC at the cost of $39.99. It will be available in both physical and digital forms on the console, but only digitally on PC.
