AMD RX Vega 64 On Par With Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti In Warhammer 2, Nvidia Takes A Hit In DX12

Previously we talked about the AMD RX Vega 64 outperforming the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti in Forza 7. Now we are seeing similar results in Warhammer 2 at 1080p. Both GPUs manage to deliver 44 FPS in DX12 mode with all settings maxed out at 1080p.

These are the numbers for DX12 and it should be noted that Nvidia graphics card take a huge hit in performance in this case. In DX11 we see another story. The Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti has the upper hand when running the game in DX11. While Nvidia GPUs take a hit in DX12, AMD GPUs show minor improvements as compared to DX12.

For this test, we used the Intel Core i7-7700K clocked at 4.4 GHz, paired with 32 GB of RAM. I am pretty sure that a driver update could help Nvidia graphics cards perform better in DX12. We have included benchmarks of the game to give you an idea of what we are talking about. The benchmarks below should make it easier for you to understand the big picture. Let’s start with DX11.

AMD RX Vega 64 Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti

Here we see that the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti has a major lead over the AMD RX Vega 64 and that the GTX 1080 Ti is able to run the game at 60 FPS while the AMD RX Vega 64 is lagging behind at 40 FPS. The GTX 970 is able to run the game at 30 FPS which is impressive considering that it is a previous generation graphics card.

Moving on to DX12 and we see the performance of the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti drop. The AMD RX Vega 64, on the other hand, gains a few FPS and comes on par with the 1080 Ti. This is very interesting. We also see that the 970 takes a hit and the Fury X manages to surpass it. You can check out the details below.
