Team Dignitas fields PUBG roster, looks to flex muscles at IEM Oakland
Team Dignitas is the next major esports organization to form a roster for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) in order to expand its competitive portfolio.
The official announcement, made at the start of the weekend, acknowledges the online battle royale product as “one of the fastest growing competitive games” in the market.
“We have been incredibly impressed by Bluehole Studio in their efforts to maximize the rapid growth of PUBG amongst the passionate esports consumer,” Team Dignitas CEO Jonathan Kemp said. “We are encouraged by the dynamic fan base that supports this game and believe the PUBG brand and competitive game genre aligns well with the other teams in our Team Dignitas family.”
The brand-new roster from Team Dignitas consists of former professional players from Smite: Peter “Suntouch” Logan, Florian “Liquidz” Bruyere, Martin “Spaikk” Beneš, and Asger “Ziphon” Storgaard Høffner.
The squad will be competing in all available major competitions that arrive. This journey begins with the recently announced PUBG Invitational at IEM Oakland next month, featuring a prize pool of $200,000. Team SoloMid, Team Liquid, Luminosity Gaming, and Noble Esports have already confirmed their participation.
This is the first time that PUBG has been picked up by Electronic Sports League (ESL) for its prestigious Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) series. The two-day invitational will feature first-person perspective (FPP) gameplay, and host twenty invited teams from North America and Europe. Six more remain to be invited, while the remaining ten will be decided through qualifiers.
