The Intel Core i7 8700K has just come out and it is the top of the line CPU in the latest Intel Coffee Lake series. While the CPU is impressive and multiple reviewers have stated that they have been able to reach 5.1 GHz on air.
HWBOT user Kovan Yang was able to overclock the Intel Core i7 8700K to 5.1 GHz using liquid nitrogen cooling. He is at the top when it comes to the Intel Core i7 8700K and in 6th place overall. All in all, this is very impressive and it has been some time since we have seen Intel achieve something like this.
This overclock was achieved using the MSI Z370 Godlike Gaming motherboard but the DDR4 RAM used is unspecified. The graphics card used for the test was the NVIDIA 8400 GS. Multiple overclocking enthusiasts have been able to achieve a very high frequency on the Intel Core i7 8700K.
der8auer has been able to get the CPU to 7.3 GHz. Critics have said that this is one of the most overclockable and future-proof CPUs that you can buy. According to Eurogamer:
Intel’s new Coffee Lake-S represents the biggest generational leap we’ve seen since the classic Sandy Bridge second-gen Core line, launched way back in 2011.
