BlizzCon 2017 will feature no Diablo-related announcement, developer hints work on Diablo IV
Blizzard has been hosting its annual video game convention for more than a decade in order to promote its major intellectual properties. This year, the company wants to make sure that fans are fully aware of what to expect in the coming months.
Posting on the official forums this week, community manager Nevalistis stated that BlizzCon 2017 will feature no announcements related to Diablo III or the franchise in general. This does not mean that the game will be missing from the show-floor as attendees can expect special informative panels. However, nothing new will be revealed.
However, not all is bad news. Blizzard is currently hard at work on something related to Diablo. This may be a new expansion pack for third installment but the exact wording makes it apparent that Diablo IV is on the verge of completion.
“We’re hard at work on the future of Diablo and exploring what’s next for the franchise,” the announcement reads. “Our passion for Sanctuary burns as bright as the High Heavens and as hot as the Burning Hells—and we’re excited to hunker down and get working!”
It makes sense for Blizzard to have its entire workforce focus solely on the new installment instead of spending special resources on the current one. Blizzard is asking fans to wait patiently for news, meaning that there is definitely something special being prepared for us next year. The best case scenario would be to hope that Diablo IV is officially announced next year at BlizzCon 2018.
Blizzard celebrated the 20th anniversary of the franchise this year by releasing Rise of the Necromancer expansion pack for Diablo III. The next patch update is scheduled to arrive soon. However, it seems like we should not expect any further updates for the coming months.
