Here’s how League of Legends will compensate you for runes and rune pages purchased

The past several years have seen majority of the community spend large number of hours grinding in League of Legends just to afford runes and rune pages. We are talking about Influence Points (IP) spent in the thousands and maybe millions by the more dedicated players who have been playing since the first couple of seasons. Thankfully, their efforts will not go to waste when runes become absolutely free with the upcoming pre-season update.

Such was promised by Riot Games earlier this year but the developer has mostly tiptoed around giving details regarding the compensation. Today, we finally have confirmation on what to expect.

“With runes soon becoming free, we want to show our appreciation for those of you who’ve spent the most on runes over the years,” Riot Games announced on the official website. “For every rune or rune page you bought before the 2017 season began, we’ll give you a little blue gift.”

Note that Blue Essence (BE) will be replacing IP as the new global currency in League of Legends.

  • Tier 3 Marks, Seals, Glyphs: 100 BE each
  • Tier 3 Quintessences: 300 BE each
  • Rune pages with IP: 1500 BE each
  • Rune pages with RP: 1 epic skin per 4 pages

A couple of more things to note here. All runes purchased during the current season will be fully refunded to the players, and all runes pages purchased over the years will transfer over to the new system.

It is very possible that players end up with more BE than they know what to do with. Riot Games will be opening up a limited-time special store at the start of the pre-season where players can sink their extra currency. A number of ward skins, chromas, summoner icons, and a few “super-rare items” like the URFWick skin will be available for purchase.

Riot Games has confirmed that the pre-season update is scheduled to go live on November 8. This will be in the week following the conclusion of the 2017 League of Legends World Championship.
