Overwatch Update Arms D.Va With Micro Missiles for Explosive Damage

A new update went live earlier today for Overwatch that gives D.Va access to a brand new ability to further wreak havoc on the battlefield.

According to the official patch notes, the mech-piloting hero has upgraded her weapons system with Micro Missiles. They are miniature rockets that detonate on impact to deal massive damage within a limited radius around each explosion. They can be fired at any time even if D.Va is using any of her other abilities.

Unfortunately, not every aspect of her kit has received improvements. Defense Matrix now depletes twice as fast but the energy regeneration has been slightly increased for additional balance.

“Defense Matrix uptime has proven to be too strong, but simply reducing it without making other changes would make her too weak,” the developer highlighted. “Instead, we’re adding a new ability and giving her the ability to fire while flying. These changes give D.Va new options while maintaining Defense Matrix’s ability to shut down big enemy attacks.”

Micro Missiles (New Ability)

  • D.Va fires a barrage of small rockets that detonate on impact, dealing damage in a limited radius around each explosion. These can be fired while D.Va is using any other ability or firing her Fusion Cannons

Defense Matrix

  • Defense Matrix’s resource meter will now deplete twice as quickly
  • Energy regeneration per second has been increased to 12.5% (formerly 10%)

  • Fusion Cannons can now be fired while flying

Elsewhere, Reinhardt is now able to look behind himself while holding his shield in front. The small quality of life change allows him more situational awareness and be wary of any flanking enemy opponent.

Furthermore, the highly anticipated rework of Mercy has finally been introduced in Overwatch. Her resurrection ability has moved to her primary slot to make space for a brand new ultimate ability that enhances her weapons and allows her to fly around.

The new update is available for Overwatch across all three platforms. You can test out the changes for yourself.
