Just recently Epic Games announced a PUBG-like Battle Royale mode for Fortnite that will be available later this month and now the studio has announced that the Fortnite Battle Royale mode will be absolutely free for all on PC and consoles.
Fortnite Battle Royale mode follows the same rules as the PUBGs and will feature 100 players against each other on a giant map. The game mode will also feature destructible environments and the last man standing will win. The mode will drop on September 26 and will be free for everybody.
Epic Games has also noted that the game mode will be free and will not sell any item “that gives a competitive advantage” but, “at some point in the future we will sell other things including cosmetics or compendium-like content”. For more details on Fortnite Battle Royale mode follow this link.
In related news, Epic Games allowed Cross-Play for Fortnite between Xbox One and PS4 which got the gaming community excited. However, Epic switched the feature off quietly citing it as an accident and Xbox head Phil Spencer has responded to the situation saying that Epic should have let the feature enabled.
While replying to a fan on Twitter, Phil Spencer expressed that he would love to see it Cross-Platform Play enabled for Fortnite and Epic should never have disabled it in the first place saying “I would have liked to see them leave it on.”
Cross-pLatform has been an issue since its introduction and while Sony doesn’t agree with Microsoft over Cross-Platform Play but, Microsoft is in talks with Sony to convince the company to allow this feature.
Absolutely, yeah. We’re talking to Sony [about crossplay], we do partner with them on Minecraft and of course we would like to enable them to be part of that; one community, to unite gamers. So we’re talking to them and we’re hopeful that they’ll be supportive of it.
Fortnite is a co-op survival game developed by Epic Games for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
