Capcom is not waiting any further to make ready the competitive ring for Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. Having released just yesterday, the game will be celebrating its launch by hosting its first tournament later this year.
Battle for the Stones will feature sixteen participants, seven of which are victors from past iterations of the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) for preceding installments in the fighting series. This includes Jay “Viscant” Snyder, Ryan “FCHAMP” Ramirez, Job “Flocker” Figueroa, Nick “KaneBlueRiver” Gonzalez, Chris “Chrigg” Gonzalez, Ryan “RyanLV” Romero, and Justin “JWong” Wong.
The remaining nine players will be decided through open qualifiers taking place across the globe and three online qualifiers for anyone that is interested in competing.
The finalized list of sixteen players will then meet at an exclusive event hosted by Capcom in December to fight for a share of the $30,000 prize pool in a knockout-based tournament.
Further details regarding the schedule will be shared by the developer soon. At this point there is no reason why the main event will not be taking place during PlayStation Experience (PSX) in the first week of December. It, after all, will also be hosting the Capcom Cup to conclude the year-long Capcom Pro Tour for Street Fighter V.
Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Our review of it is already up and praises it for its “fun and engaging mechanics” that are only let down by “uninspired art direction and questionable roster omissions.”
