Just recently reports emerged that Epic Games allowed Cross-Play for Fortnite between Xbox One and PS4 and the feature are quietly disabled by citing it as an accident. However, Xbox head Phil Spencer, who has been a supporter of Cross-Platform Play, thinks that Epic should have let the feature enabled.
While replying to a fan on Twitter, Phil Spencer expressed that he would love to see it Cross-Platform Play enabled for Fortnite and Epic should never have disabled it in the first place saying “I would have liked to see them leave it on.”
Sony isn’t particularly in favor of Cross-Platform Play and considers it a security threat and Microsoft, on the other hand, is very critical of Sony’s stance over Cross-Play. According to Xbox head, Phil Spencer, the argument Sony is presenting is not healthy for the game industry. He added that user security is among Microsoft’s the top priorities.
While Sony doesn’t agree with Microsoft over Cross-Platform Play but, Microsoft is in talks with Sony to convince the company to allow this feature.
Absolutely, yeah. We’re talking to Sony [about crossplay], we do partner with them on Minecraft and of course we would like to enable them to be part of that; one community, to unite gamers. So we’re talking to them and we’re hopeful that they’ll be supportive of it.
According to Xbox VP Mike Ybarra, according to their data, players want to play with large multiplayer pools of people and it Cross-Play is here to stay.
Our data shows people want larger multiplayer pools of people to play with and the choice to play together. This isn’t going away.
Do you think allowing Cross-Platform play will be a good step for both console communities? Let us know in the comments.
