Overwatch will be free to play next weekend, without any restrictions or limitations in terms of the currently available content, on all three platforms.
Posting on the official website, Blizzard announced that the free weekend will take place between September 22 and 25. During this time, the entire roster of 25 heroes and pool of 16 maps will be accessible to all. This includes the most recent inclusion of the long-awaited Doomfist and the new escort map called Junkertown. The only aspect of the game that will not be available during the event will be Competitive Play.
“Players will also have the ability to level up, earn loot boxes, and unlock a variety of different customization options,” Blizzard confirmed.
In addition, players who decide to purchase Overwatch after the event has ended will have all of their progress transferred over. Just make sure that the account is the same that was used for the free weekend.
Details on the deployment schedule, installation procedure, and other instructions are available from the main website. It goes without saying that interested individuals better make sure to have Overwatch installed on their systems beforehand in order to save time.
The free weekend will go live for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in America, Europe, and Asia. It will not take place in South Korea.
Yesterday, game director Jeff Kaplan revealed that an astonishing number of accounts have been punished since the game was released last year. Majority of these actions have been a direct result of the in-game reporting button. If you do come across toxic behavior during the free weekend, make sure to report them.
