Bethesda Studios, the creator of the Elder Scrolls series, has announced that they will be holding a Skyrim Special Edition free weekend, allowing players on the Xbox One to be able to play the critically acclaimed open-world RPG for free all throughout this weekend. The game will also be half off.

The fifth Elder Scrolls game takes players to the cold and tundra-filled country of Skyrim, a land that’s wracked by civil war and troubles with a sudden invasion of dragons. Players take on the role of the Dragonborn, a legendary warrior that can absorb the souls of dragons and gain their powers, along with possessing a mystical power known as the Thuum, or “Voice”.

Now, players must set out on a journey to stop the lead dragon, Alduin, from destroying the world by absorbing souls and attempting to revive dragons to build an army. But that’s not all; players also have the ability to stop a civil war, become the arch-mage of a magic academy, lead a group of monster hunters, and much, much more.

Skyrim Special Edition is an upgraded re-release of the original game. In addition to having every single piece of content that came out in the original version, the game has also gotten a graphical upgrade to look better on current-generation consoles.

The Skyrim Special Edition free weekend allows players to play through the game for free for a few days, and if they end up enjoying it then they can buy it for half off the original price and keep playing too. You don’t have to worry about starting over, either; the saved data from the free version will carry over to the version that you buy.

The Skyrim Special Edition free weekend is apparently only available on the Xbox One console, so if you’re an Xbox One owner and haven’t picked up the Special Edition yet, now is your best time to do so.
