A short burst of Destiny 2 Lost Sector gameplay has shown off what you’ll be doing in one of the small instances that you’ll come across while exploring the new environs of the game. Lost Sectors are essentially dungeons that you can enter while you’re patrolling one of the new planets.
In this particular instance, the Lost Sector the player goes into has to deal with Taken, the ghostly black soldiers of Oryx, the God-King of the Hive. Earlier, the player in question was assigned to funnel the Taken into a gulch and then fight them, in order to perform some sort of experiment.
The gameplay video for the Destiny 2 Lost Sector wasn’t very long, only around three minutes, but we do get to see the new Hunter class in action, including performing their Super. There’s also a lot of gameplay against the Cabal and Fallen.
Lost Sectors are only one part of the vastly expanded amount of content that Guardians will be going through when the game releases on September 6, this Wednesday. Alongside Raids, Strikes, story missions, the Crucible, Flashpoints, and public events, Lost Sectors will be something that you’ll randomly come across on patrol, and they can lead you to cool rewards.
Plus, a Destiny 2 Lost Sector like this one, where the primary threat are the Taken rather than the Cabal, might give a breath of fresh air to a game like Destiny 2, where the Cabal of the Red Legion are the primary threat this time.
While it’s unlikely that there will be a lot of Taken in the new game, considering Oryx is dead and there’s no one to make more, the Taken will hopefully still be just as interesting to fight as they were in the Taken King expansion.
Destiny 2 will be coming out on the Xbox One and Playstation 4 on September 6, and on the PC on October 24.
