Steamworld Dig 2 Will Be Releasing On Nintendo Switch September 21
Steamworld Dig 2, the sequel to 2013’s original Steamworld Dig, will be getting released on the Switch next month, on September 21 to be exact. Soon after the game’s Switch release, players will also be able to buy the game on both the Playstation 4 and PC, via the Steam game client.
Steamworld Dig 2, being the direct sequel to the original Steamworld Dig, means that once again the gameplay will focus around mining for ores, investigating mines for the secrets beneath them along with fighting monsters that you come across over the course of your digging. The protagonist, Dorthy, will apparently be searching for Rusty, the robotic protagonist of the original Steamworld Dig.
The original Steamworld Dig got very positive reviews when it released, as did its unofficial sequel Steamworld Heist, so hopefully its sequel will do just as well.
There’s also a good number of new things coming in the sequel; players will also be seeing a Metroidvania-style underground world, and an increased influence on platforming elements, likely to help vary up the gameplay to a point beyond “mine this metal” and “fight these enemies.”
The game being a timed exclusive is also similar to the original Steamworld Dig, which came out originally for the Nintendo 3DS and eventually branching out to a huge number of other platforms. While currently Steamworld 2 only has plans for a PC and Playstation 4 release, that may change in the months after the game is released.
Once again, Steamworld Dig 2 will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch on September 21, and in the future will also be coming to the Playstation 4 and the PC, on Steam. If you were a fan of the other two SteamWorld games, you can probably go out and get the same sort of experience you had in those games out of Steamworld Dig 2.
