At IFA 2017, ASUS revealed a very interesting product. The Asus ROG Chimera gaming laptop. IFA is the world’s leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances. Now coming back to the gaming laptop. It is powered with a Corei7-7820HK and a GTX 1080 graphics card.
Asus ROG Chimera gaming laptop has a massive 17.3-inch screen size. For a laptop, that’s huge. This screen supports Nvidia G-Sync with up to 144Hz refresh rate. G-Sync makes it interesting since the monitor refresh rate is adaptive to the frame rates rendered in the game and it makes the overall experience crystal clear, fluid and buttery smooth.
Chimera gaming laptop has an Intel Corei7-7820HK processor that offers 4 cores, 8 threads, base frequency of 2.90 GHz, Max Turbo frequency 3.90 GHz, Cache of 8 MB and a max TDP of 45 Watts. The processing power is more than enough to handle multiple workloads and multi-threaded intense gaming sessions where too much is happening at the same time.
Asus ROG Chimera gaming laptop comes with a GTX 1080 graphics card. One observation made by PCWorld is that judging by the ROG Chimera’s thickness, it’s probably not using Nvidia’s Max-Q technology as found in laptops such as the ROG Zephyrus. If that’s the case, gamers will be getting the full power of Nvidia’s mobile GTX 1080 to make the most out of the panel’s 144Hz refresh rate.
1080p gaming with a 144Hz will be a blaze and a delight to attend. Since the hardware is beefy, Asus is also expected to position VR capabilities as well. One more cool feature of the Asus ROG Chimera gaming laptop is that it supports Xbox wireless technology. You can start your gaming with a controller without worrying about adding a separate USB adapter or a dongle.
Detailed specs have not been revealed for the laptop but the price is estimated to be around $2000 with configuration margin of up to 64GB DDR4 RAM. But it’s not confirmed.
