It is true that it takes some time before the true potential of every new champion released for League of Legends is realized. Some are fairly easy to learn while others await the discovery of favorable scenarios. Ornn, however, was released last week to suffer more than usual.
According to op.gg, a third-party platform that assembles data from high-rated ranked games, the hardworking blacksmith registers one of the lowest win-rate percentages in multiple roles as well as a shabby play-rate ratio. Ornn is being tried out as a support, in the jungle, and on top. However, he has so far failed to prove his status as a demi-god.
Riot Games came to the rescue over the weekend by releasing a hot-fix to buff the champion. According to the official patch notes, his base statistics have been improved and the cooldown for his ultimate ability reduced.
HEALTH GROWTH STAT 85 ⇒ 90
BASE HEALTH REGEN 7.18 ⇒ 9
HEALTH REGEN GROWTH 0.6 ⇒ 0.8
ATTACK SPEED GROWTH 1.3% ⇒ 2%
R-CALL OF THE FORGE GOD COOLDOWN 150/115/80 seconds ⇒ 130/100/70 seconds
“Ornn’s been having a tough time pulling out wins since launch a few days ago,” the developer said. “[We] want to strongly emphasize something to Ornn’s teammates as well: don’t rush Ornn’s Masterwork upgrades! These items are meant to give you a stat advantage in the late game, not to replace or offset your first major item purchases.”
The current status of Ornn is exactly why he will be disabled during the upcoming 2017 League of Legends World Championship. There is not enough time to make sure that he is perfectly balanced and without any game-breaking issues, such as the one where the game crashes for everyone if Mordekaiser kills Ornn with his ultimate ability.
