PC market and Steam’s digital distribution have been growing exponentially in Japan, partly because of the success of Dark Souls, and Shinji Mikami is quite in favor of digital distribution and wants God Hand on Steam. Shinji Mikami is one of the most respected developers in the industry for his work on the Resident Evil franchise and he is currently working on Evil Within 2 as a producer.
As reported by Destructoid, Shinji Mikami is embracing PC games and digital distribution citing PC sales in the west and increasing interest in PC gaming in Japan. According to Mikami, he welcomes “the new world of Steam and digital sales”.
Mikami specifically mentioned God Hand that he would like to see on Steam and would “love to do again”. However, he added that this whole God Hand thing depends on Capcom who owns the rights to the God Hand IP.
Speaking of Shinji Mikami, the developer has hinted that he could return to Resident Evil franchise and might direct Resident Evil 8. He was asked if he would return to direct Resident Evil 8 at QuakeCon to which he just responded that “I Might” and that he has all to say on the matter.
Mikami is currently working on the upcoming Evil Within 2 and has confirmed that Evil Within 2 gameplay will be different from the first game.
According to Mikami, there will no forced stealth sections or combat sections, meaning players can take any sort of approach that they want. The gameplay will be much different, allowing players to make it through the game’s sections in a variety of ways.
Evil Within 2 is a survival-horror game in development at Tango Gameworks and is scheduled to launch on October 13, 2017 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
