While the original announcement event seems to have been planned for tomorrow, thanks to the Taiwanese PlayStation Store we now know that Sega is working on Yakuza Kiwami 2 among the many titles it currently has in development.
According to the store listing, Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be a remake of Yakuza 2, similar to how Yakuza Kiwami is a HD remake of the original Yakuza game. The game will be built on the latest iteration of the Dragon Engine which is currently powering up Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.
As can be expected from a remake, Sega will be re-recording audio for Yakuza Kiwami 2 as well as introducing a lot of other upgrades and enhancements to make the game a proper HD remake of the original 2006 release of Yakuza 2.
From the looks of things, Sega intended on announcing the title tomorrow during their New Titles Presentation. However, the surprise isn’t all ruined as director Toshihiro Nagoshi had earlier mentioned that a number of titles will be revealed. This means that fans have at least some more game announcements to look forward to from the announcement.
There is no mention of the Japanese or a western release for Yakuza Kiwami 2 so it is highly likely we won’t see the game any time before 2018. As for platforms, it will probably be a PS4 exclusive, however that might be more clear after the presentation tomorrow at 7pm Japanese time.
In the meanwhile, Yakuza fans have the upcoming western release of Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 6 to look forward to as the latest game of the franchise launches in North America in March 2018. Yakuza Kiwami will be releasing on 29th August and will have four post-launch DLC packs which will be available for free and include weapons, outfits and more.
