Capcom has brought the Resident Evil franchise back to its roots with Resident Evil 7 and it seems that god father of horror games, Shinji Mikami, will be directing Resident Evil 8. Shinji Mikami was the director of the original Resident Evil title and is currently working as a producer for Evil Within 2 at Tango Gameworks.
Shinji Mikami also directed the first Evil Within and is currently producing the upcoming sequel. However, that does not mean the horror legend will not come back to Resident Evil franchise. He was asked if he would return to direct Resident Evil 8 at QuakeCon to which he just responded that “I Might” and that he has all to say on the matter.
It is clear that Shinji Mikami committed to Tango Gameworks and its upcoming title but, we are hopeful that once he is done with Evil Within 2 he will return to Resident Evil franchise to direct Resident Evil 8.
In related news, Steamforged Games has started a Kickstarter for Resident Evil 2 board game. The game will be set in the world of Resident Evil 2 and the project has been approved by Capcom. No details have been revealed regarding the Resident Evil 2 board game and the Kickstarter campaign will start in Autumn.
Resident Evil 7 launched earlier this year and while failed to meet the sales expectation of 4 million units by March 31, 2017, but, Capcom is still optimistic about the game’s sales. According to Capcom, it expects the game to ship 10 million units in its lifetime.
Also, Capcom is bringing Resident Evil Revelations and Revelations 2 to Nintendo Switch later this year. Aside from these two titles, Capcom has not yet revealed if any other Resident Evil titles will be coming to Switch.
What do you expect from Resident Evil 8? Do you think Shinji Mikami should return for the next entry? Let us know in the comments.
