The ranked and casual playlists for Rainbow Six Siege are being changed for the upcoming third season.
Posting on the official website, Ubisoft stated that the map pool for ranked will be mirroring with that of the competitive Pro League. This means a reduction in the number of maps currently available in the mode. In addition, new maps added during a season will be excluded from both the playlists of ranked and the Pro League.
“This is being done to ensure that players have time to explore and learn the new maps in Casual and in Custom Games, and to make certain that we are able to eliminate any glitches or exploits prior to entering new maps into the competitive map pool,” reads an explanation.
Ranked Maps for Season 3
As for the casual mode, the number of maps are being reduced to fifteen. The developer explained that it recently discovered a steep learning curve for new players in Rainbow Six Siege. This is majorly in regard to gaining map knowledge. If there are fewer maps then players will require less time to learn each one of them.

The developer also pointed out that the changes are not permanent. The playlists will be adjusted every time the ranks are reset at the end of a season. Keep in mind that some maps being removed from the map pool of the next season are subject for rework. That being said, Rainbow Six Siege is quickly approaching “the limit of our data sizes” which means that maps must be stored different. In that light, Ubisoft will be removing some maps entirely from the game at some point down the road.
