Players will no longer need to pop Three Of Coins items in order to get Destiny 2 Exotic engrams, according to Bungie. The game will now drop even Exotic engrams randomly across the world over the course of normal play, simplifying the loot grind and making it easier to get cooler weapons.
Exotics are some of the most powerful and sought-after weapons in Destiny, ranging from items like the Gjallarhorn rocket launcher to the Last Word Hand Cannon, to the infamous Thorn, the scourge of the Crucible all throughout the original’s run. All of these weapons are exotics, and come with a variety of special abilities.
These special abilities and the power of the weapons made them so powerful that you could only have one exotic weapon and one exotic piece of armor on yourself at any time to prevent breaking the game, and it seems like Destiny 2 exotic engrams will run on roughly the same rules.
In the original Destiny, players normally uncovered exotics through randomly discovered quests in Patrol, or gained them through things like raids, running Strikes with a Three of Coins item active, or buying them off of Xur, who visited the Tower every weekend and sold various items for Exotic Coins. Whether he’ll return in Destiny 2 however remains to be seen.
Bungie has said that they aim to make Destiny less of a grind to play, and the possibility of Destiny 2 exotic engrams popping up during normal Patrols and other missions is part of that. It will keep players from having to grind constantly for legendary and exotic weapons, allowing more people to get more weapons.
Hopefully this will be able to keep the game more varied, allowing players to test out and get more exotic weapons than they could in the original game.
Destiny 2 will be releasing on September 6 on the Xbox One and Playstation 4, and on October 24 for the PC version.
