2K Games Confirms NBA 2K18 Cover Will Be Changed To Reflect Kyrie Irving’s Trade

Players being traded to other teams is a common occurrence in sports although it can present a problem when it comes to making game covers and that is exactly what happened with the NBA 2K18 cover yesterday, just as the game gets closer to its release date next month.

The current NBA 2K18 cover features Kyrie Irving in his Cleveland Cavaliers jersey, however, just yesterday Irving was traded and is now a member of Boston Celtics which creates a discrepancy with the game’s cover art. Thankfully, 2K Games was quick to respond to the issue and released a statement regarding a change in the cover art.

This isn’t an unprecedented event, a cover athlete being traded–but it’s certainly interesting timing with 2K18 being released in less than a month. The good news is that as the most authentic and realistic basketball game on the market, we’re used to being nimble and responding to changes in the NBA. Fans should be thrilled to know that we will issue a version of 2K18 featuring Kyrie in a Boston Celtics uniform at a later date.

There are currently no details on when this new and updated NBA 2K18 cover will be released but given the game is so close to launch, it is highly likely this new packaging will not make the cut for the initial launch.

The Canadian cover for the game, however, will not see any changes as it currently features DeMar DeRozan, representing the Raptors, and that game cover will remain the same.

NBA 2K18 will be releasing on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on 19th September. Those who pre-order the game get early access on 15th September. 2K Games has also released the full soundtrack list for the game which includes songs from artists like Drake, Shakira and Ma$e.
