As to be expected from everyone that knows how popular the SNES was, SNES Classic pre-orders have been completely sold out within seconds of going online at various major online retailers, from Amazon to Wal Mart. The SNES Classic holds 30 different classic SNES games, including the unreleased Star Fox 2.
The SNES Classic is the successor to the NES Classic, a re-release of the Nintendo Entertainment System, only much more portable and filled with 30 of the system’s most classic games. While the NES Classic was only supposed to be a limited edition thing despite selling over a million units, the SNES Classic will be resupplied much more regularly, according to Nintendo.
Various games that are on the SNES Classic include games like Earthbound, Contra 3, Final Fantasy 3, Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, Kirby Super Star, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Mega Man X, Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Star Fox 2 (which was never released before now), and Super Metroid.
According to reports, SNES Classic pre-orders went on sale at around 1 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, but sold out in less than a minute. While more shipments are likely to go in and become available, we may be running into a similar experience that we had with Playstation VRs, Nintendo Switches, and other hotly-anticipated consoles, where not enough are on shelves at the time when pre-orders become available.
With the NES Classic shipping 2.3 million units before it was discontinued, and with Nintendo promising that the SNES Classic will produce significantly more units than the NES Classic, hopefully both before and when the SNES Classic actually comes out, more people will be able to buy them.
Be on the lookout for more opportunities to get one of the SNES Classic pre-orders when they get replenished, sometime before the console releases on September 29.
