The honor of receiving the momentous and unique championship skin this year in League of Legends goes to Ashe, the Frost Archer.
She is already present on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) and looks absolutely gorgeous. The skin comes with a brand new model, featuring an armor and regal cape fit for a queen. In addition to new animations for her entire kit of abilities, Ashe raises her throne as she attempts to recall from the battlefield. The skin also includes new special particles and audio effects for players to marvel at.
Championship Ashe is priced at 1350 RP, higher than the past skins in the lineup, and should officially release for League of Legends next month.
It is important to note the relevance of the skin. A portion of all the proceeds, twenty-five percent to be accurate, from the skin will go towards funding the prize pool of the 2017 League of Legends World Championship. This crowd-funding initiative began last year with Championship Zed, which managed to raise over $2 million for the prize pool. The championship skins lineup has, however, been there since the early years. It previously featured champions like Thresh, Riven, Kalista, and Shyvana.
The 2017 League of Legends World Championship will take place in China from September 23 to November 4. The tournament will be broken down into different phases and jump between multiple cities for fans to get close to the action. SK Telecom T1 will be hoping to defend its title and win the whole thing for the fourth time in history.
Elsewhere, the developer confirmed earlier this week that the new Ornn champion will be disabled for the duration of the championship.
