Battlefield 1 Incursions Competitive Mode Unveiled, Alpha Begins Soon

Electronic Arts (EA) has announced a new competitive mode for Battlefield 1 called Incursions.

Electronic Arts (EA) has announced a new competitive mode for Battlefield 1 called Incursions. It is still months away from an official release but the developer has provided a few details for the community to better understand what is coming their way.

The new Incursions mode focuses on “fast, strategic gameplay” and pits two teams of five players against each other. Due to the low number of participants, the multiplayer maps will be scaled down to much smaller areas. This will ensure that players do not have to scour entire deserts to find their targets.

Vehicles will still be available for use as they are an important part of the Battlefield 1 experience. However, the developer hinted that they will not carry that much of an impact in the competitive arena.

A major change over the other modes is in the introduction of a drafting system. This will be used by both teams to select their kits before a match begins. It will place additional emphasis on teamwork and coordination.

DICE is still working on the mode but an upcoming closed alpha test next month will allow certain lucky individuals to get an early look. Those interested can sign up on the official website and hope to be shortlisted. Take note that registrations end on August 26.

“It’s super early in production, but we want to get out there to the players and bring them in as part of the development,” said producer Jojje Dalunde. “I’m really looking forward to seeing this out in the wild.”

The alpha will feature only one map, a modified version of Giant’s Shadow. Players will have access to eight kits: Trench Surgeon, Control Leader, AT Assault, Battle Mechanic, Mortar Support, Raid Leader, Shock Assault, and Proximity Recon. Better weapons and abilities can be unlocked by simply playing and ranking up.

More details should make our way in the coming weeks, or once the closed alpha has concluded. A final release date for Incursions is not set for Battlefield 1. It will hopefully arrive by the end of the year.
