New Overwatch Map and Animated Short Announcement Confirmed for Gamescom 2017

Blizzard has a few surprises for Overwatch when it returns to Cologne, Germany, next week to be part of one of the largest gaming conventions in the world.

Earlier today, the company officially announced its schedule of events for Gamescom 2017. It confirmed previous rumors that Blizzard will take the stage to reveal a brand new map for Overwatch, which will be available for attendees to check out firsthand on the show-floor.

In addition, a new animated short will be premiered for the game. Looking at how “The Last Bastion” from last year gave us Eichenwalde, it is likely that the animated short will relay the origins of the new map.

Those interested in art will have the honor of watching Rachel Day from the official art team of Overwatch present the making of Doomfist, the latest character to be added to the game. There will also be a lot of impressive cosplay as well as a meet-and-greet with the developers.

Finally, the German voice actors from the game will be doing a live performance. The company also confirmed a panel for members of the regional Overwatch World Cup team.

Last week, the Public Test Realm (PTR) received two new game modes for Overwatch: Team Deathmatch and Free-for-All. It is possible that attendees will get to try them out on the show-floor as well.

Gamescom 2017 officially kicks off on August 21 and will run until the weekend.
