The Intel Core i9-7960X is part of the Intel X series CPUs and features 16 cores and 32 threads. This monster is supposed to compete with the AMD Threadripper CPUs. While the Threadripper CPUs are already out, we have little information regarding the Intel Core i9-7960X. Here we have some leaked Geekbench scores.
The leaked Intel Core i9-7960X benchmark shows that the CPU scored 78323 in the multi-core test and 5804 points in the single core test. This test was conducted using Windows 10 and the motherboard that was used was the ASRock X299 OC Formula.
While this test was conducted on the ASRock X299 motherboard. We also have another Intel Core i9-7960X benchmark that was conducted on a Gigabyte motherboard and the score was much higher on that. You can check out the results below:
While the difference is not too great in the single-core test, the difference is much more significant in the multi-core test. Having that said I doubt that the difference is due to the motherboard that has been used but then again that might as well be the case as we have heard complaints regarding the X299 motherboards.
These were initial complaints and motherboard manufacturers like Asus have been hard at work fixing these problems. Do check out the Asus X299 Rampage VI Apex that comes with a new VRM cooling in order to counter the VRM heating issues.
The Intel Core i9-7960X is a great option to consider but such performance does come at a price. Luckily we will be getting the Coffee Lake CPUs soon and it will be the first time that Intel will introduce 6 cores in the mainstream lineup of CPUs.
Let us know what you think about these Intel Core i9-7960X benchmarks and whether or not you are interested in buying one of these CPUs when they come out.
