The latest issue of Game Informer gives us some more details on Sledgehammer’s upcoming Call of Duty WW2, the game which finally takes the yearly franchise back to its roots and away from futuristic combat.
The Call of Duty WW2 details also highlight the game’s zombie co-op mode, which from all we have seen so far looks amazing and turns the scare factor up a few notches as compared to previous games where the co-op mode had an arcade and comedic approach to it.
Some of the Call of Duty WW2 details are listed below. It seems like a lot of thought and effort went into designing the co-op zombies mode and it won’t just be players killing waves of enemies. There seems to an in-depth story and lore behind everything.
Zombies mode takes place towards the end of WWII, when Nazi Germany was in a desperate situation.
The Zombies are created by man, Dr. Straub. Straub’s Zombies are centered around the nervous system. The Zombies are created by bolts and other items that you see stuck in them. Their backbone is the energy which charges their nervous system. The Zombies are actually being tortured.
Since we already know that this story is based on actual events during World War 2, it will be interesting to see the game mode in action and how the story unfolds. Unfortunately, the game beta scheduled for later this month will not give players a chance to try this out.
There are 4 classes: Offense, Control, Support, and Medic.
Boarding up windows and collecting currency is back in this mode.
There are both wave based rounds and location/event based encounters
Players can earn some “special abilities” in Zombies mode. Activated by pressing R1 and L1. An example is Unlimited Ammo.
Call of Duty WW2 is set to launch on 3rd November for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Sledgehammer recently revealed that while the game will have a loot box system, it won’t just be the person who opens the loot box who gets to benefit from it.
