Adorable Emotes Are Being Added to League of Legends, Work Just Like Pings
Riot Games is paving way to bring back in-game emotes for League of Legends but as a permanent feature for the community to express themselves with.
They were previously introduced as part of special or seasonal events and remained for only a fixed duration. During the 2015 League of Legends World Championship, every qualified professional team received its own logo as an in-game emote. Fans had the opportunity to support their favorite teams by unlocking the respective emotes from the store and flashing them in-game through the mastery emote. Riot Games took this to another level last year when the same emotes for the professional teams were given additional animations that were obtained through multiple ranks.
Posting on the official website, the developer announced that it will soon be adding emotes to League of Legends as a permanent feature. A new radial dial will allow players to stack multiple emotes and choose which one to use on the fly. It is similar to how the radial dial for pings work in the game.
To prevent the issue of spamming, there will be a cooldown period before an emote can be used. In addition, taking damage will instantly make the emote go away. The community is obviously going to use them to taunt others. Riot Games assures that such players can be muted so that their emotes are not seen.
“Our number one goal is to give you a way to instantly express a wide range of emotions; if you’re playing Blitz, you should be able to show how you feel after a great hook, or a terrible hook, or when your ult passive steals farm from your AD,” said the developer.
The emotes are already ready to be sent to the Public Beta Environment (PBE) for testing. They should arrive with the next update. As for when the feature will go live for League of Legends, it should be within the next couple of patches. This is, of course, if the provided feedback is positive.
League of Legends is rather late to the emote-using party. Other popular games such as Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm have been using them for quite a while.
